ETYMOLOGY
\eh-tuh-MAH-luh-jee\ • noun. 1 : the history of a word or phrase shown by tracing its development and relationships
During my “great awakening” I was led to understand the importance of language and the words I use. In the words of Dr. Delbert Blair, I began to “think about what I was thinking about”. What type of language I thought about and then spoke into existence? Do I understand what I am saying? What do these words truly mean? Words and writing (or spelling) involve manifesting things into our reality. When we use the incorrect terminology and/or spelling of words, we speak over ourselves an unintentional manifestation of self and our reality.
Etymology is important because it helps us to understand our native language. However, because we (the diaspora) have forgotten who we are, we do not know our native language and culture. It’s a reason why people say English is a “broken language”. The English language is non-tonal, and many words are considered homonyms, meaning they share the same spelling or pronunciation but have different meanings.
On a spiritual level, knowing the etymology of words will unlock life’s meaning and the connection to the divine. Let take the word “conscious” for instance:
conscious (adj.)
c. 1600, “knowing, privy to” (poetic), from Latin conscius “knowing, aware,” from conscire “be (mutually) aware,” from assimilated form of com “with,” or “thoroughly” (see con-) + scire “to know” (see science). The Latin word probably is a loan-translation of Greek syneidos.

If we go deeper with an understanding that everything has masculine and feminine principles, we can break down this word even further…Let go
CON ∙ SCIOUS
CAN SCIUS (Latin)
KEN (Scot) DISCERN
“TO KNOW” “TO KNOW”
MASCULINE FEMININE
So, what does all this mean? Breaking down the word conscious means to have a balance of masculine and feminine energy. To understand that awareness is a balance of the truth and it’s important that we awaken to our truth to restore balance to the earth. In upcoming posts, we will discuss balance and the 48 Laws of Ma’at.
